Downton Abbey and the Sovereignty of God
Post-Modern man has abandoned objective truth and natural law - so why are so many viewers enthralled with the BBC Series Downton Abbey? Isn't it just a soap opera dressed up in early 20th century clothes? No. Decidedly no. Those who know the period see an authenticity not only in the thoughts and actions of the characters in the ethos of class consciousness; but much more, the authentic representations of the waning days of natural law and the sovereignty of God. If you are a politician, you could say the characters express the waning days of feudalism. If you are a psychologist, you could say the characters express the waning days of religious guilt. If you are an historian, you could say the characters express the waning days of Enlightenment thought.
