How Socinianism
Relates to the
Heresy of Decisional Regeneration

Fausto Socinus was a humanist whose writings were adopted by the Polish Reformed Church and many Unitarian churches. His theories were published in England in 1732.

The English version of his name is  Faustus Socinus. When someone is labelled a Socinian, it can be because he believes 1) Christ is not God. 2) Christ didn't pay the penalty for sin 3) Christ has no miraculous powers in Himself 4) Christ does not have a supernatural relationship with Christians. 5) God has no foreknowledge of what sinners and saints are going to do.

A Socinian does not believe salvation is through supernatural regeneration. He believes salvation comes through faith in Christ's teachings. Human reason, not spiritual illumination is the way people get saved. Divine truths are obtained through common sense. In colonial America, some of the founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson, and most Unitarians, held Socinian ideas.
